jammu, June 4: The Revenue Department is yet to take a decision on nearly 80 families, comprising some top businessmen of Jammu, who are non-state subjects but have secured Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs) fraudulently.
Sources informed Early Times that State Subject Inquiry Commission had forwarded a list to Revenue department with nearly 70 to 80 names, majority of who were non-state subjects but had acquired PRCs by fraudulent means.
Majority of the names recommended by SSI Commission to the Revenue Ministry for taking action some businessmen and influential families of Jammu who have been spared by successive state governments.
A top official in the Revenue department, pleading anonymity, disclosed that new Revenue Minister had taken a strong exception to the fake PRC cases. "Initially it was being contemplated by the department to cancel the PRCs of all non-state subjects who figured in the list forwarded by SSI Commission but later technical experts in the department advised to grant some time to the people who were yet to be heard," he said.
"Now we have two types of cases forwarded by the SSI Commission-those who have obtained PRCs fraudulently and were already given time, and the Commission after completion of enquiry had submitted complete details along with the relevant documents. Second, those whose side is yet to be listened."
Commissioner Secretary, Revenue, Mohammad Afzal Bhat told Early Times that notices would be served to those cases only whose side was not heard by the SSI Commission.
"There are many cases who have obtained PRCs fraudulently and SSI Commission has already completed full investigation and submitted the dossier," Bhat said, adding that after getting instructions from the minister concerned, action would be taken.
Revenue Minister, Javed Mustafa Mir was not available for comment despite repeated attempts to contact him.
