Need to rethink on our relation with party: Karra | PDP unhappy with BJP ministers | | Early Times Report srinagar, June 17: Signaling that the coalition partners Bharatiya Janata Party and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir are not comfortable with each other, the senior PDP leader and Member Parliament Tariq Hamid Karra on Wednesday suggested that his party should "rethink" on its relation with the BJP as "continuation in the coalition seems to be doing more damage to the party." Karra in a statement here said, "The Agenda of Alliance has been just confined to paper and right from the day one there has been no consonance between the functioning of the PDP-BJP coalition Government with the said agenda." Karra termed as "brazenly apathetic" the flood relief package announced by Centre and said that it "amounted to rubbing salt into the wounds of people". Karra said the much-hyped package announced by the Centre is not only grossly inadequate but also speaks of the perceptible bias in Government of India's attitude towards Jammu and Kashmir. "Ironically, against the projected demand of Rs 44000 crore for relief and rehabilitation of the flood-affected infrastructure, the Government of India has after a delay of 10 months announced a paltry Rs 2400 crore," he said and added that the attitude of the Central Government seems to be clearly discriminatory given the extent of financial assistance provided in similar tragic situations in Uttarakhand and even within J&K at Leh. "If Government of India can rush with assistance to Nepal during the quake, and genuinely so, and if it can do away with all the formalities to reach out to the flood-affected in Uttarakhand, why resort to double-standards when it has to reach out to the people of J&K in similar tragic situations," he wondered. Meanwhile, sources told Early Times that the flood rehabilitation package announced by the Government of India has put the PDP in a tight spot as the party had promised that it would seek adequate compensation from the Centre to rehabilitate the flood victims. "It's becoming difficult for us to pull along as we have not been able to deliver either in Jammu or in Kashmir," said a PDP leader. He blamed the BJP ministers for providing "wrong feedback" to the Central government. "We are caught in an awkward situation as the BJP ministers are inexperienced and lack acumen to handle the situations. The infighting among the BJP ministers is making it difficult for the PDP to run the government," the leader added. He said that Tariq Hameed Karra's statement is a tip of the ice berg and it can snowball into a major controversy if the BJP state and central leaders fail to take note of the sensitivities and the issues related to Jammu and Kashmir. "We need money to compensate flood victims. Complete pending projects and initiate new projects," the PDP leader said. |
