700 bags of substandard cement seized, 6 held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 17: With arrested of six persons, and recovery of 700 bags of substandard cement, Police today claimed to have unearthed a scam wherein substandard cement was being sold by filling it in bags of renowned brands in Sidhra in city outskirts of winter capital of state. "On specific information about sale of sub standard cement, a police party led by police raised a naka, police sources said and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02AD-7670 and recovered some bags of substandard cement from the truck. Police arrested driver and helper of the truck and seized the truck and have ascertained their identities as Suresh Kumar of Akhnoor and helper Farooq Ahmed of Poonch. Following the preliminary questioning of the two accused police came to know about the store where some more bags were stored in Sidhra locality. Police reached the spot and seized total 700 bags of substandard cement and arrested store owner identified as Mohammad Hanif and three labourers in this connection. Police sources further said that a bill book was also recovered from the cement store which will help to ascertain about the delivery of this substandard cement in other districts. Police sources said that modus operandi adopted for the sale of sub standard cement by the accused was to buy substandard cement from Punjab and then filling the same in the bags of branded cements before selling in market. |
