Let police substantiate its claim on Sopore killings | | | If the police are to be believed a major breakthrough is on the cards in mysterious killing of four people, in separate incidents in Sopore, during the last one week. The police have identified militants who have been responsible for the killing of four innocent people, including one former militant, who had started running a shop after abandoning weapons while surrendering before the security forces. And if the police version is any guide these killings, including temporary disruption caused to the telecom services by attacking telecom operators and those working for BSNL,were carried out by activists belonging to Lashkar-e-Islam considered to be breakaway group of Hizbul Mujahi-deen. These activists had created scare among people when a couple of telecom operators were killed and some mobile towers were attacked by grenades and bombs which had forced the mobile tower owners to shut the towers. However, the security forces have achieved a great success in putting the telecom services back on the rails and are currently engaged in arresting or eliminating activists belonging to the Lashkar-e-Islam who had caused scare among people. In reality, the activities of Lashkar-e-Islam activists were aimed at derailing peace and security stability in the Kashmir valley which may not allow the PDP-BJP coalition Government to implement various schemes which could usher a new phase of development and economic prosperity. The attacks on telecom operators and some innocent people including former militants and associates of some separatist leaders were aimed at allowing a chance to the separatists to register their presence by launching a campaign against the Government and the security forces. And when one of the supporters of Syed Ali Shah Geelani was killed allegedly by activists of Lashkar-e-Islam Geelani was quick to blame the Indian agents for carrying out killings. He seemed to be so much sure of the involvement of "Indian agents" that he gave a call for observing shutdown in Sopore and people willingly responded to his call for hartal. However,it was during the shutdown that a former militant was killed. Now that the police have claimed that activists of Lashkar-e-Islam are involved in Sopore incidents of killings it would be great service if the police arrested these activists and their statements were released to the print and electronic media so that people in general and the separatists in particular were able to know the reality. At least these separatists would stop blaming the centre and the Indian agents for all the sins that are being committed by militants and by the supporters of separatists. This is possible if the police are able to nab the real culprits and those culprits belonged to Lashkar-e-Islam or to any other militant outfit. Even otherwise sustained operations against militants and their underground operatives are called for if the coalition Government is really eager to promote development. Development is possible if there is peace and peace is possible once security forces enjoy the upper hand forcing militants to lay down their weapons. This can be possible if the troops and the BSF jawans, deployed on the LOC and on the IB respectively, are able to bring down infiltration level of militants to zero. When the border routes have become passable after the melting of snow Indian troops are duty bound to check ingress of militants when reports do indicate that series of infiltration bids were being made to escalate the level of violence in the state. |
