Efforts on for making yatra incident free | | | Last minute efforts were being made for ensuring incident free annual Amarnath yatra which is to start from July 2and end on August 29.Additional companies of paramilitary forces, that have been sanctioned by the union Home Ministry for providing security to pilgrims, have started arriving in Jammu and Srinagar. Reports indicate that within a couple of days these additional companies of paramilitary forces would be posted on Jammu-Khannabal (Anantnag) route and on Anantnag-Srinagar-Baltal route leading to the holy cave. Between 60 and 70 additional companies of paramilitary forces are being deployed on various routes that were to be followed by the pilgrims. Governor, N.N.Vohra, who heads the Amarnath Shrine Board, has visited the tradtional yatra route in Kashmir on a number of occasions to ensure that the two routes, Pahalgam-cave and Baltal-cave, were cleared of snow making the yatra somewhat incident free. As far as the Government and the Shrine Board are concerned all possible security arrangements have been completed. In addition to this the state Government has made elaborate arrangements for providing instant health care in medical camps.Scores of stalls providing food items were being set up on the entire route from Lakhanpur to the holy cave..Fast and junk food have been banned and the stall owners have been told not to sell or make available any stuff that affects one's health. A large number of muslims in the valley wish for a bumper pilgrim traffic as that could allow them to enjoy pecuniary gains. In this segment fall traders, transporters, porters, ponywalls and even houseboat owners and hoteliers. During the last several years it has become a common sight watching a segment of pilgrims recreating in houseboats or hotels either days before the yatra or after they completed their pilgrimage to the mountain cave supposed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. These pilgrims buy various handicraft items, dry and fresh fruits during their stay in Kashmir. If not all atleast 30 per cent of pilgrims travel to the holy cave either in Dandis or on poneys. Most of the pilgrims use porters for carrying their luggage and some old and infirm pilgrims are carried by the porters on their shoulders. Well if the separatists, backed by a segment of militants, create law and older problem du ring the yatra, which may affect the flow of pilgrims, local people, especially traders, transporters, hoteliers, ponywalls and porters would get enraged and disillusioned with the separatists. It is in this connection that all those connected, directly or in directly, with the annual pilgrimage have appealed to the separatists to avoid derailing peace during the 59-day yatra period so that more than four lakh pilgrims visited the holy cave. With several lakh pilgrims visiting the holy cave in kashmir traders, transporters and hoteliers in Jammu to are benefitted because a large section of pilgrims purchase various items in Jammu before returning to their homes. Hence it will not be in the interest of separatists if they try to derail peace during the yatra period.Reports do indicate that separatists have no plans to disrupt the yatra still the Government has made foolproof arrangements for ensuring a hassle-free yatra.Once pilgrims completed their yatra without any problems it is bound to create proper and safe atmosphere in rest of the country.Any attempt at disrupting the yatra could invite strong reaction in various parts of the country and hence separatists in particular and Kashmiri muslims in general need to ensure peace during the yatra period. |
