Early Times Report

Kishtwar, June 28: Much hyped announcements by the MoS in Prime Minister Office and MP from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda, Dr. Jitendera Singh about setting Rs 650 cr Saffron park, special job fairs, degree college and other slew of projects for Kishtwar are yet to take off. Singh had last year announced a degree college for Padder during a public rally and assured the local people that classwork in the college would be started from this year. But even after more than eight months since Singh made the announcement, nothing was done on the ground as neither any rented accommodation nor land acquisition process has been started.
Similar is the fate of around 50 VHF Towers announced by Singh after getting sanction from Union Telecom Ministry. Till date, not a single tower has been installed, with the result most areas of the district like Marwah, Warwan, Dachhan and Padder remained unconnected.
Another much hyped project was Rs 650 cr saffron park for Kishtwar aimed to provide job to women. The proposal which also found mention in BJP's Assembly election campaign could not take off too.
The people of Kishtwar while reacting towards these unfulfilled promises blamed local BJP leadership for its failure to follow up on these projects.
Singh, on the other hand, has not made any visit to Kishtwar after the Assembly elections to check whether there has been any progress on various projects announced by him.
The people of Kishtwar also rue poor mobile and internet connectivity and said that Singh has failed to push the mobile companies including BSNL to improve its services in the district.
"Importantly, unemployment is growing at an alarming rate in Kishtwar. No job fair was held and there is no headway on 1000 MW Pakal-Dool power project. Our MP did nothing to push for these much-hyped projects," a group of angry unemployed youth told Early Times.
The youths said they still hope that Singh will conduct a detailed tour of Kishtwar and will listen to the problems faced by the people.
