Shortage of doctors' hits patient care at CHC Mahore
Out of 16 doctors posts sanctioned, 13 are lying vacant for years

Jammu, June 28: Patient care has taken a backseat due to an acute shortage of doctors at Community Health Centre Mahore, where 13 posts of doctors are still lying vacant, besides the medicines are also missing from Hospital.
Sources informed Early Times that around a decade, CHC Mahore was upgraded by state government but till date same has failed to provide best health care facility to people of Mahore.
"The CHC Mahore has sanctioned strength of 16 doctors including six specialist doctors, eight Assistant Surgeons and two Dental Surgeon but the all specialist doctors posts have been falling vacant since the institution was upgraded, besides six posts of Assistant Surgeon and one post of dental surgeon are lying vacant", sources said.
However, everyone knew that in Jammu and Kashmir vast of population were living in rural areas that remains deprived of doctors that too at a time when enough stress is being laid on checking adverse impact of shortage of human resource on health care delivery across the state.
The shortage of doctors in CHC Mahore, and their load of patients was continuously increasing on the already burdened district hospitals as people are forced to visits district headquarters to avail the services of specialist doctors, while otherwise should have been provided at their doorsteps", sources said and adding that even the patients are being put to grave inconvenience of travelling huge distance to reach district hospitals. They further said that CHC Mahore has been catering the population of 58 Panchyats, who are spread across length and breadth of mighty mountains.
In the absence of doctors at CHC Mahore, people have been facing many difficulties during medical emergencies and they have to rush either to the district hospital, which itself needs "medical help" at present, or to the GMCH in Jammu by hiring private vehicles.
Director Health Services Jammu, Dr. B S Pathania could not be contacted for comments despite repeated calls.
