Modi effect: Govt to develop Intl yoga centre in Jammu | | | Abdul Majid
Early Times Report Srinagar, June 28: Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said he was overwhelmed by the response to World Yoga Day, the state government reiterated its commitment to develop International Yoga Center in picturesque Mantalai area of Jammu region. Officials said to boost pilgrim tourism, Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has decided to develop the International Yoga Center where people from across the world would be attracted. Officials said since last week when Modi led the Yoga event in the national capital, the state government has made development of the International Yoga Center a part of its tourism promotion through road shows across the country. A few Kms from the pilgrimage locale of Sudh Mahadev is Mantalai where one can visit a complex created by Late Swami Dhirendra Brahamchari. "The State Government has now planned to develop Mantalai into an International Yoga Centre and its going to give a fillip to the tourism sector in the area," said a senior official in the Chief Minister's Secretariat. He said the development was part of the plan to develop "tourism circuit" along in the hill resort of Patnitop near where Sudh Mahadev and Mantalai also fall. Chief Minister who also holds the Tourism portfolio is keen to boost tourism sector in the state while Yoga can be a new attraction. In Sudh-Mahadev is the Shiva temple, at a distance of 43 Kms from Patnitop. The legend has it that after bathing at a spring called Gouri Kund, just short of Sudh Mahadev, the Parvati would worship the Shivling here that is believed to be at least 3000 years old. Yoga activities in this locale are expected to be a big hit among foreign tourists. Modi sounds similar. A week after the June 21 event, the Prime Minister today said he was overwhelmed by the global response to the International Yoga Day."Which Indian will not be proud of the way the world recognized Yoga," he said. "People of France chose to do Yoga at Eiffel tower, people of New York at Times Square..." The event, he said, joined everyone regardless of age, gender of economic status. "I do now know how the intellectual class or the elite will interpret this," he said, adding the spotlight on Yoga Day has drawn the world's eyes towards India. "The world is keen to know more about India, our values, our traditions, our culture," Modi said. The government has been projecting the United Nation's acceptance of International Yoga Day as an affirmation of India's growing stature in world stage and its soft power. Altogether 177 countries had supported the idea and on June 21, programs were held across 192 countries to mark the occasion. The biggest demonstration was held on Delhi's Rajpath, led by PM Modi, in which over 35,000 people participated. Today, the Prime Minister indicated that the event will also have an unexpected spin-off -- job opportunities for the youth. "The success of Yoga Day has another aspect - the world needs good Yoga teachers... I ask the professional class and the youth to boost yoga online and prepare a database for trained teachers," he said. The success of the International Yoga Day, he said, also demonstrated the willingness of the people to work for the country. |
