Early Times Report

Anantnag, June 28: A PDP leader in this south Kashmir district is allegedly harassing top officials of the administration, seeking undue favours for his henchmen.
Mufti Sajjad Ahmad who was recently appointed as in-charge for whole south Kashmir is openly interfering in the administrative decisions and influencing the same to benefit his close aides and friends, highly placed sources told Early Times.
They said that continued harassment from the PDP leader has irked many officials who have taken up the issue with their higher-ups. There is no respite from the harassment, though.
Mufti also forced some officials to distribute flood relief among the non-deserving families. "Those who weren't hit by floods were given relief on the directions of the PDP leader," said sources.
"His directive to officials is clear: obey or get ready for transfer," they added.
Sources said that from past few months it was noticed that Mufti is helping those who are tainted or 'blue-eyed'. "Just in these months he has earned a bad reputation because of his deeds. Had he used his influence and resources in a better way he would have helped many poor and earned a good reputation among the public," said a PDP leader, pleading anonymity.
He said that besides harassing officials, Mufti is bypassing and isolating senior party leaders, which has created a divide in the party particularly in the south.
"Ironically, those who approach senior leaders and cabinet ministers for help are being denied entry at his residence," a PDP worker said.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has visited his home constituency Bijbehara twice this year and during his visit schism in the party was evident with workers protesting against Mufti Sajjad.
However, a close aide of Mufti Sajjad claimed that he has closed down the business of many party workers and leaders who were earning out of transfers of employees.
Mufti Sajjad did not return repeated calls from Early Times.
