Does BJP really care about Jammuites? | Despite part of Govt, party fails to make Summer Secretariat functional in Jammu | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 28: Almost one month has passed since the MoS in Prime Minister's Office, Dr Jitendera Singh, had announced that BJP's alliance partner PDP has been apprised of the urgent need to start Summer Secretariat in Jammu to enable the Jammuites to meet the ministers in order to seek redressal of their grievances. Three days after Dr Singh's announcement, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh also made similar statement, assuring people of Jammu that the practice of holding Summer Secretariat would not be discontinued in the larger interest of the people of Jammu region. All these announcements have, however, remained confined to papers as no formal order has been issued so far nor any roster of ministers about their availability in the Secretariat was circulated. It is not clear who opposed the practice after the announcement was made by BJP leaders in Jammu to pacify the agitating residents. In the first week of June when both the Singhs had announced to start the Secretariat, the caretakers of the Civil Secretariat complex had swung into action to clean the premises and readied conference halls. But in the absence of a formal order they also dropped the idea of making it operational. Meanwhile, in the absence of Summer Secretariat the people's anger is growing as they accused the state government of stopping the past practice of listening to the grievances of people. |
