ZEO DH Pora orders indiscriminate transfers of several ReTs
Keeping norms at bay!

Early Times Report

KULGAM, June 28: In blatant violation of norms, a Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) in DH Pora zone of Kulgam has transferred as many as forty five Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers to far off areas allegedly under political pressure.
Sources said that ZEO Nazir Ahmad Khan has ordered transfers of 45 ReT teachers during past over a week. They said that besides ReT teachers, those having allegiance with any political parties in opposition are also being transferred deliberately due to which the poor students in the middle of the current session have to face the repressions of these politically motivated transfers.
According to rules, ReT teachers can't be transferred from their respective place of postings even if their services are regularized since their appointment is school specific.
However in violation of norms, the Education Department has transferred 45 ReT teachers and over two dozen teachers in zone DH Pora of Kulgam district from places of their actual postings allegedly on the directions of Minister of State for Forest Abdul Majeed Padder.
"On the directions of the minister, those whose families have links with political parties excluding ruling one are being punished and transferred to far off areas," a teacher working in ZEO office pleading anonymity revealed.
Terming it with political vendetta, he said that authorities are deliberately creating shortage of teaching staff in schools which is affecting the studies of poor students of this hilly and backward region.
Fayaz Ahmad, a teacher who was also transferred from D H Pora Zone to Devsar Zone of Kulgam district told Early Times that with his transfer from Higher Secondary School D H Pora, Education Department has left only three teachers for 200 students of class 9th and 10th.
"Although I don't have any problem with the transfer but one thing which hurts is that the department has left only three teachers for 200 students as other posts are lying vacant since long," he said.
Zonal Education Officer, Nazir Ahmad Khan when contacted admitted that the department has transferred teachers. "We have clubbed some schools that have very less role and as a result of clubbing teachers were transferred to those schools that have very high role," he said.
However, ZEO refused to comment over the transfer of teacher from HSS D H Pora which is already facing shortage of teaching staff and said, "This is not in my control, you please contact Director Saheb for further details."
Director Education, Showket Ahmad Beg when contacted assured action and said, "Oh, I will just ring CEO Kulgam and ask him about the transfers of ReT teachers."
