Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 28: Union Home Secretary LC Goyal on Sunday reviewed the security in Jammu and Kashmir with a special focus on the arrangements made for the 59-day annual Amarnath Yatra beginning July 2.
Goyal, who arrived here on a two-day visit today, took the review during a meeting with top brass of all security agencies including police, army and the civil administration.
The meeting was attended by General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, Lt Gen Subrata Saha, Director General of state police, K Rajendra Kumar, Inspectors General of Police, CID and paramilitary CRPF among others.
The focus of the meet was the security of the pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra, but the general law and order situation in the state was also discussed, officials said.
"The Union Home Secretary was briefed by the officials on the security situation in the state with a particular reference to the Yatra," they said.
Goyal asked the officials to ensure that the Yatra remained peaceful, the officials said.
The Home Secretary also reviewed the internal security situation in the state particularly the situation arising in the wake of attacks in Sopore and hoisting of Pakistani and ISIS flags in some parts of the summer capital here, they said.
"He was also briefed about counter-infiltration and counter-insurgency operations in the Valley," the officials said, adding Goyal asked the security agencies to keep a close watch on anti-national elements.
Goyal is scheduled to visit the Yatra base camps at Nunwan and Pahalgam in South Kashmir tomorrow.
He is also likely to fly to various other points on the traditional track of Chandanwari for on-spot review of the security and other arrangements for the pilgrims, they said.
Goyal is likely to call upon Governor N N Vohra, who is also the chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to discuss the issues with them, officials said.
