SMC presses men, machinery to remove filth from Brari Nambal Lagoon | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 28: In a major drive to clean up Brari Nambal lagoon, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today involved around 100 SMC workers, including sweepers and officials. At least six truckloads of garbage were lifted from the lagoon. In a press release, Public Relations Officer SMC, Masarat Yusuf said the day long drive was overseen by SMC Commissioner Tufail Matto who visited the spot at least thrice to personally take stock of the drive. Masarat said that several JCB's and 12 shikaras were put into action to remove the filth from the lagoon and its surrounding area. She added that later on water sprinklers were pressed into service. "We had forewarned people that no encroachment on the lagoon will be tolerated. No one would be allowed to set up any kind of structure in and around Brari Nambal," said PRO SMC while quoting Commissioner SMC. The commissioner reiterated the pledge that SMC will put all efforts to ensure a clean and sanitized lagoon. This entire cleanup operation was supervised by Chief Sanitation Officer Syed Nisar, Sanitation Officer Akbar Sofi and Ward Officer Nazir Baba. |
