Poonch, July 16: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch today celebrated 87th Foundation Day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) by conducting Progressive Farmers' meet here at KVK premises. According to press release, the meeting was chaired by Dr. Sanjay Swami, Programme Coordinator of KVK Poonch in which about thirty progressive farmers representing all the areas of district Poonch participated. S. S. Jamwal, Programme Assistant welcomed the participants and briefed them about the ICAR and its mandate. Acknowledging the immense contribution of progressive farmers of the district, Dr. Sanjay Swami welcomed the efforts made by them in achieving higher yields and improving the quality of different kharif and rabi crops along with fruit and vegetables. During the interaction with the farmers, Dr. Sanjay Swami highlighted that the KVK Poonch has already setup a "Kissan Soochna Kendra" at KVK premise. It is a superhighway of authentic information with models, banners, charts, photographs, booklets and pamphlets on new high yielding varieties of different crops, latest agricultural technologies, insect and diseases identification and their control majors, modern farm implements, various Central and State Government run schemes for the farmers and unemployed rural youth. Dr. Muzafar Mir, SMS (Fruit Science) highlighted the scope of various horticultural crops such as apple, plum, walnut, pear, peanut, apricot for the mid hills of district Poonch.
