Despite BSF alert, health centre Pansar locked for 3 days | | | Arun Trisal Early Times Report KATHUA, July 16: Various health centres in Kathua are 'seriously ailing' for quite some time, and some of them remain open just twice a week. While taking precaution after incessant cross border firing at Arnia and Akhnoor sectors, the BSF personnel had alerted the entire area, but the health centre Pansar was locked during official hours for around three days, angering local residents. Shakti Paul, a local resident, said the medical staff opens the Pansar centre just twice a week. He said when they approach the centre staff, the latter cite one or other excuse. Another local resident Mohan Lal said no medical employee was present when the people injured in cross-border firing were brought to nearby sub centers for first aid. "Health Minister Lal Singh vows to revolutionise the health sector but it seems Kathua district does not figure in his pro-active agenda," said Mangat Ram, another local resident. The people said government spends huge amount on infrastructure but has failed to review the functioning of health centres in Kathua and order border districts of the state. They said that whenever they tried to contact BMO at Hiranagar, he was not present in his office. They demanded presence of medical staff during emergency in the border areas. When contacted by Early Times, BMO Hiranagar, Omkar Nath tried to defend his women staff. He said nobody ever complained to him about the staff. When asked about the fate of health centre Pansar, he said he would take action against the missing staff members. |
