Worsening situation on the border and LoC- a cause of serious concern: Cong | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 16 : Strongly condemning the unabated firing from across the border causing loss of lives and injuries to the civilians and security forces, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has said that the worsening situation on the border and LOC in the state, is a cause of serious concern. In a meeting of Senior Congress leaders presided over the JKPCC Chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir at PCC Headquarters here today, expressed concerns over the continued incidents of firing from Pakistan which has made the life of the people living along the Indo-Pak border and near lien of Control (LoC), miserable as number of people have become the victim of firing in recent past. The members in the meeting felt that the large number of such incidents during past over 13 months and the exchange of ammunition during the period which, is highest in number and magnitude post 1971 war, in peace times, is an indication of the worsening situation on the borders in the state and a reflection on the outcome of the peace efforts in this direction. The meeting also observed that the utterances of Pakistan and happenings before and after the joint declaration of the two Prime Ministers at Ufa in Russia, recently, indicate that Pakistan is not sincere to its words and its moves in the direction of normalization of relations with India. Members also observed that claims of the Modi government of achieving a major breakthrough by exerting positive pressure in the direction of improving relations and confronting terrorist activities and infrastructure there, does not seem to be yielding any positive results. "People of Jammu and Kashmir, especially those living near LoC and Indo-Pak border are directly affected by the prevailing situation between the two countries, which is a cause of great concern for all of us, Congress leaders said and further expressed sympathies with the border people while urging government to adopt an effective strategy to ensure the cessation of activities of hostilities by Pakistan. Later a team of Senior PCC leaders led by PCC Chief G A Mir visited Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu today and enquired about the condition of the victims of the Pakistan firing.
