JAMMU, July 16: Sailing on superb innings from international cricketer of the state, Shubham Khajuria, Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor today reached the semifinals of the ongoing Chevrolet Cup Cricket Tournament at KC Public School ground, here. In the second quarterfinal of the tournament, played this afternoon, Singh Club outplayed formidable side of J&K Police by 52 runs. Earlier, young cricketer, Shubham opened the Singh Club innings with his power-packed 97 runs, hitting hard who so ever bowled him on the mat wicket. Earlier, batting first, after J&K Police won the toss and opted to field, Singh Club set a challenging target of 189 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs game. Besides Shubham's 97, Govil contributed 25 runs to the total. From J&K Police, Shamsher emerged as most successful bowler, who took four wickets for 21 runs while Ambrose bagged two. In reply, J&K Police could not maintain the required run rate and in the process bundled out for 136 runs in 19.3 overs. Skipper, Sham Singh Langeh and Chander took three wickets each thereby restricted opponent from attaining the goal. For his brilliant knock, Shubham was obvious choice for the man of the match title. Today's quarterfinal officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Rajinder Singh as umpires while Honey Chib was scorer.
