| SVC orders to lodge FIR in electricity theft cases | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 16: In the complaints regarding electricity theft in districts of Poonch and Reasi, the Executive Engineers, EM&RE division, Poonch and Reasi, have been directed by the State Vigilance Commission to register FIRs against the defaulters who have managed illegal electric connections and are not paying the due electric charges to the government. According to press release, It was brought to the notice of the Commission that electricity is being mis-utilized and the domestic connections are also being used for commercial purposes as well thereby causing huge financial loss to the State exchequer. Both the Executive Engineers, have been directed to submit a list of domestic connection holders who are using the electricity for commercial purposes also and are paying charges for domestic connection only. They were also directed to submit a list of defaulters to the concerned electricity Magistrates so as to initiate recovery proceedings for the electricity arrears due against them. They were also directed to bring about awareness among the general public to get their electricity connections legalized in a time bound manner and install electronic meters in their premises/houses/units. The Executive Engineers were directed to submit compliance report to this Commission for further consideration.
