Girl killed, 11 of family injured as Sumo rolls down

BANIHAL, July 16: One girl died on spot while eleven others of a family sustained injuries when a Tata sumo met with an accident on Jammu Srinagar Highway near Shabanbass some two kilometer short from Banihal Town. Police have registered a case in this regard and further investigations are on.
"The deceased has been identified namely as Pooja Devi a student of 12th d/o Om Parkash of Jatgali Ramban, police said.
Police spokesperson said that a Tata Sumo in which 12 passengers travelling in rolled into a deep gorge near Shabanbass area of Banihal on Jammu Srinagar Highway when driver lost his control over the vehicle.
Police said that at about 1:45 am, the Tata Sumo (JK19-1619) and driver Tulsi Dass s/o Hari Dass of Halla Jatgali who got unhurt in the accident managed to escape from the spot.
"All the passengers belong to one family from Jhatgali Chanderkote of Ramban district and they are coming back from the Matten Anantnag Kashmir after performing a yatra, police said.
SHO Banihal Tariq Naik said that after the information of accident received, police rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. "Traffic police, army unit and locals also joined the rescue operation and shifted the injured persons to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Banihal.
Police said, "Doctors treating the injured declared one passenger Poja Devi as brought dead and her body was sent to Chanderkote after legal formalities.
Meanwhile others injured were shifted to Srinagar have been identified as Ludermani s/o Ram Nath Jatgali, Balwant Singh s/o Ram Nath , Rita Devi d/o Ludermani, Ram Nath s/o Shesh Nath of Jatgali, Gudi Devi d/o Balwant Singh, Krishna d/o Om Parkash, Kanta Devi d/o Om Parkash, Arjana d/o Om Parkash and Om Parkash s/o Ram Nath all resident of Jhatgali Chanderkote Ramban.
Police said that this accident is a case of negligent driving and a case under FIR no 107/2015 u/ s 337/279/304 RPC stands registered at Police Station Ramban. Meanwhile manhunt is on to nab the absconding driver.
Meanwhile another accident took place in the same location on highway when an Alto car on its way to Srinagar from Jammu turn turtle on road and the occupant of the vehicle -the driver received minor.
