Spurt in terror-related incidents in J&K | BJP a mute spectator | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 6: Kashmir based parties adopting soft approach towards separatism has encouraged the separatists and has even boasted the morale of terrorists sitting across the Line of Control (LoC). It's unfortunate a few Kashmir based parties believe in and preach Kashmiri Muslim sub-nationalism and miss no opportunity to identify themselves with those in Kashmir who use terror as a weapon to achieve their sinister design: Separation of Jammu & Kashmir from India and its conversion into a theocratic state with rogue Pakistan as its source of inspiration. It would not be an exaggeration if someone says that the Kashmir-centric parties are part of the ongoing break and hate-India movement in the Valley. The fact of the matter is that they consistently indulge in politics of competitive secessionism and communalism for obtaining a mandate from Kashmiri Muslims. Kashmiri leaders of these Kashmiri parties, like separatists and terrorists of all hues, say day-in-and day-out that Jammu & Kashmir is not a settled issue and that if a lasting peace is to be forged in the state New Delhi has to negotiate with separatists like pro-Pakistan Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq or with those on blood on their hands. Kashmiri parties consider the anti-India activities in Kashmir as an expression of their democratic right and again and again criticize and condemn the role of Army and paramilitary forces involved in anti-insurgency operations. Believe it or not, but it is a fact that there were, and are, elements in the establishment and in the parties like NC and Congress who had given overt and covert support to separatists and extremists in the Valley in the past and it has been happening even today. That's the reason there is spurt in terror-related incidents not only in Kashmir Valley but also Jammu province whose ideology is different from that of Kashmir. Till March 2015, BJP was the only party that used to play the role of an opposition in the state, notwithstanding the fact that it was a marginal outfit in the state having its support-base confined to 8 to 11 assembly constituencies in Jammu region which returns 37 members to the 87-member Assembly. In February, the so-called nationalist BJP forged an alliance with Peoples Democratic party (PDP) with the full backing of the BJP high command and Prime Minister Modi. The dangerous developments which have been unfolding on a daily basis in the Valley and elsewhere in the state and the organization of anti-India rallies at regular intervals in different parts of Kashmir where anti-India slogans are raised and Pakistan and ISIS flags are waved under the very nose of the establishment. Ironically, the Modi Government has been watching the ongoing reign of terror and senseless brutalities and attacks on the Army and paramilitary forces as a mute spectator. In fact the deterioration of situation in Kashmir to the extent that people have started saying that the situation in the Valley is worse than what it was in early 1990, when secessionist violence gripped the Valley leading to the wholesale migration of the miniscule minority of Kashmiri Hindus to Jammu and other parts of the country. It would be proper to say that the Modi regime has turned out to be a boon for Kashmiri separatists as well as Pakistan. Both are exploiting the New Delhi's weak-kneed foreign policy vis-à-vis Pakistan and its Jammu & Kashmir. While aggressor, terrorist and irresponsible Pakistan and its agents in Kashmir have been bleeding the nation with a thousand cut on a daily basis, the Modi Government has been kneeling, yielding and withdrawing, thus establishing that the BJP is no different from Congress as far as its stand on Pakistan, Jammu & Kashmir and secessionist violence in Kashmir is concerned. In fact, Narendra Modi has turned out to be a very weak Prime Minister, even weaker than his predecessor Manmohan Singh. It may appear ridiculous and unbelievable, but it is a fact that the nationalist camp in Jammu & Kashmir has been terming the agenda of alliance as an "agenda of subversion". They do make a point when they say so. The agenda of alliance does contain everything that suits Pakistan, Kashmiri separatists. For, it not only maintains the questionable politico-constitutional status-quo in the state but also recognizes Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists as stakeholders in the Indian Jammu & Kashmir and talks about withdrawal of the Army and anti-terror laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the state. The spurt in terror-related incidents in Kashmir needs to be viewed in this context. Indeed, the role of the Kashmir-centric parties in Jammu & Kashmir is disturbing and that of BJP mind-boggling. |
