LC Sectt employees lock Secretary's office | Deadlock to end by Monday: LC Chairman | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 21: With the Legislative Council employees locking from outside the office chamber of Secretary Legislative Council (LC) to protest the appointment of the newly appointed Secretary Legislative Council Ab Majeed Bhat, whom they say is an outsider and has been virtually denied the right to take over the charge from the present Secretary Legislative Council Mohammad Ashraf Mir. Meanwhile, Chairman LC has endorsed the government decision on appointment of Bhat as Secretary and clarified that the continuing row over his appointment will be resolved on Monday. Highly placed sourced said that though the LC employees who locked from outside the office chamber of Secretary to deny him the right to take over the charge from the incumbent Mohammad Ashraf Mir resumed duties on Friday, but they did not unlock the office chamber of secretary Legislative Council to continue their protest against the appointment of an officer from outside the Council Secretariat as Secretary Legislative Council. It is in place to mention here that the present Legislative Council Secretary Mohammad Ashraf Mir, who now holds the additional charge of the post, is also an officer from outside the Council Secretariat. Interestingly both Mir and Bhat belong to Law department but not to the LC Secretariat. Mir, the present Secretary to Government Law Department was appointed Secretary LC few years back when the then acting Chairman Legislative Council had opposed the appointment of another officer of the Law department Mohammad Sayeed Shah as Secretary Legislative Council on the grounds that he was not consulted by the cabinet on the decision. However Chairman LC Haji Anayat Ali told agencies "Presently there are two additional secretaries in the legislative council secretariat but none of them qualify for the post of Secretary for the reasons that they have been promoted only two months back. Government as such is fully empowered to appoint Secretary LC as per the rules governing such appointment. I have talked to the minister concerned and others after hearing the aggrieved employees of the LC secretariat. The government order will be implemented on Monday and the row over the issue will automatically come to an end." |
