'Most female Cong leaders merely rubber stamps' | | | ET Report jammu, Aug 21: A piquant situation was emerged in a meeting, which was convened by the Congress remember former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birthday anniversary, when a senior party leader took females and youth to task for backstabbing the party. The leader went to such an extent that he remarked that most of the women leaders of the Congress party were virtually rubber stamps in the hands of their husbands. Those present in the meeting were shocked when the veteran leader pointed out a former Corporator of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and said that she was sitting in the meeting but her husband was standing outside. "They are rubber stamps in the hands of their husbands that is the reason that our party has failed to make inroads among females and youth", he remarked. The female ex-Corporator maintained a guarded silence on the tirade which was directly fired against her in the presence of all senior leaders. The veteran leader also named another female Congress leader, who was a former minister, said that the female leader even could not attend her phone calls. Her husband usually attended her phone calls and it is his prerogative that which call of the leader has to be attended. "What is the fun of such female leaders in the party?", he asked and impressed upon the party leadership to promote only those female leaders who have potential to go on their own. He made it a point to mention that majority of the female leaders of Congress party were controlled by their husbands. In the presence of PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir, the said leader recalled that late Rajiv Gandhi had worked lot for youth and women but in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections it was only youth and women who voted over-whelmingly against Congress party. |
