Arun Singh Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 21: A few days after the District Administration Jammu banned excavation of minor minerals from rivers and nallahs in the periphery of bridges and other hydraulic structures, illegal extraction of minerals continues unabated near railway bridge at Greater Kailash. Sources told Early Times that mining took place a few days after the District Administration imposed a ban on mining within few meters from the railway bridge in the lane number of 12,13 at Greater Kailash "It is very surprising that the spot where this illegal excavation took place, which is a Nullah, is just few meters away from the police post of the area." The ban was imposed to check uncontrolled extraction of minor minerals like Sand, Bajri, and RBM from Tawi, Niki Tawi, nallah near Sidhra Bypass Bridge, Jhajjar nallah , Kattal, Battal nallah, Chenab River and all other water bodies, particularly in the vicinity of bridges motorable and railway, major hydraulic structures including siphon, aqueduct, protection bunds etc to prevent damage to their basements and supper structures. Shockingly, despite the imposition of Section, 144 CrPC which restrained any person , vehicle or machine, whomsoever or whichever, to excavate Sand, Bajri and RBMs from the rivers mentioned within a periphery of 1 km of all major structures like bridges, siphon, aqueducts, protection bunds. The restriction had also applied on local nallahs within the distance of 150 meters periphery of culverts, vented causeway for period of two month. Ironically the issue was brought to the notice of Directorate General Mines Jammu but no action has been taken till date. Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh said that he had information about the matter and action is being taken as per law. |
