And, now J&K BJP charges India with breaching IB, LoC | Resolution on ceasefire violations | | Early Times Report jammu, Aug 21: The J&K unit of the BJP has, it seems, gone totally perverted. Its leaders are making highly deplorable statements indicating hatred towards Jammu region and India as a whole. On April 24, a senior BJP leader snubbed the people of Jammu region for demanding a full-fledged All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). "No power on earth could snatch AIIMS from Kashmir and it will not be established in Jammu," he said in Jammu itself on the day the people across the region observed a complete bandh on the issue of AIIMS. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced AIIMS for Jammu while delivering his second budget speech in the Lok Sabha on February 28 and MoS in PMO, who hails from Jammu, had thanked Jaitley for his announcement the same day and also issued a statement to that effect. The MoS also declared at the Kathua rally that "AIIMS was always meant for Jammu". Earlier in March, the same leader had accused the NC-Congress coalition Government of bartering the interests of Jammu & Kashmir by allowing New Delhi to control NHPC power projects in the State. He had said: "India is using our land (read Jammu & Kashmir territories) and waters and we will see to it that these NHPC power projects are handed over to Jammu & Kashmir Government". It was hoped that the BJP high command and local BJP leadership would censure this BJP leader, but it didn't happen. On the contrary, it seems, he was given a freehand, which obviously emboldened him. However, on Wednesday, not one but at least seven important BJP leaders crossed all the lines to identify themselves with the separatist sentiment and endorsed a resolution that condemned New Delhi, the Indian Army, paramilitaries, and even Jammu & Kashmir Police for what the resolution called repeated ceasefire violations across the International Border and the Line of Control. The resolution or whatever it was, among other things, expressed "great anguish over the repeated ceasefire violations across the LoC and International Border in Poonch, RS Pura and other sectors" and "deeply mourned the loss of lives in these acts of violence". The resolution didn't say repeated ceasefire violations from across the LoC and International Border; it specifically said repeated ceasefire violations across the LoC and International Border and the resultant loss of precious lives. It was the first ever occasion when the so-called nationalist BJP attacked India in a most brazen manner. It's a different issue that it escaped the attention of Pakistan. It would be too much to say that these BJP leaders didn't know what from across the International Border and Line of Control or what across the International Border and Line of Control literally means. Even a naive can differentiate in no time between "from across International Border and Line of Control" or "across the International Border and Line of Control". If at all they endorsed the resolution without looking at its content, it is their duty to clarify their position. If they remained silent, then it would be presumed that they actually meant what the resolution said. |
