Before leaving for heavenly abode Kar gifted Khidmat Trust to family | | | Early Times Report
jAMMU, Aug 21: Poor performance in the Assembly elections has not been the only setback for the Congress party in Kashmir. A staunch Congress family has dealt a severe blow by transferring the assets owned by Khidmat Trust to it. Senior Congress leader, Ghulam Rasool Kar passed away in April this year. However, before leaving for his heavenly abode, Kar transferred the assets of the trust worth 200 crores to the family. Without taking the trustees on board, Kar transferred the assets to his wife, son and daughter through a supplementary deed. The deed makes Kars widow Habla Begum, his son Irshad Rasool Kar trustees of the trust. A provision reads that Kar's daughter Masarat Kar will become trustee in place of Ghulam Rasool Kar after his death. The Khidmat trust owns a huge shopping complex and a printing press. It also publishes The Khidmat, the official organ of the Congress party. Besides, the Trust is involved in real estate business. The Congress Party has no knowledge about the deed. The Trust founded in 1882 had former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mangat Ram Sharma and ML Fotedar besides Ghulam Rasool Kar as trustees. Interestingly some of the trustees including Irshad Kasool Kar have joined the PDP. The incumbent PCC Chief, GA Mir sees a conspiracy against Congress in the supplementary deed. He does not rule out forgery. Ghulam Nabi Azad, however, has a different take on the issue. According to him the president or the vice-president of the trust cannot appoint his relatives as trustees. It merits a mention here that Ghulam Rasool Kar was the resident and Ghulam Nabi Azad the vice-president of the trust respectively. |
