Couple held for alleged manhandling of doctors in GMCH, 6 medicos injured | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 1: Once again, the fingers were raised towards the Management of Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for their negligence toward safety of Doctors, when a couple (patient and his wife) allegedly attacked doctors on duty as well as Chowki Officer of Police Chowki GMC Jammu. Atleast six medicos reportedly have sustained minor to superficial injures, hospital sources said, while adding that the agitated couple even manhandled the Incharge Police Post GMCH Jammu. The accused couple has been identified as Shakeel ul Rehman (patient) and his wife Shameem and the duo was arrested by police while a case also registered in this regard. Hospital sources told that the accused Shakeel was admitted in Ward- 5 of Surgery Department for his injuries received in an accident on August 29. "He has some complains and came to doctors on duty but not satisfied with doctors suggestions sources said, "agitated patient alongwith his wife pounced upon doctors on duty. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon and injured medicos have been identified as Dr Yogesh, Dr Naresh Koul, Dr Thinless, Dr Mubasir, Dr Onam and Ankush Koul and all the medicos later were hospitalized. When contacted Medical Superintendent of Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal said, "We have registered a complaint in Police Chowki in GMC hospital Jammu and Police has taken action in this regard". Meanwhile, Resident Doctor Association (RDA) under the leadership of Dr Akhil Gupta in a meeting have condemned the attack on doctors and accused MS-GMC and Hospital and accused him for his negligence toward safety of resident doctors. Meantime the General Secretary RDA Dr Wasim Chouhan has questioned the competency of GMC administration for their inability to regulate the attendants in emergency and other wards of hospital which is a long pending demand of RDA. At the same time RDA once again has appealed to Minister for Health & Medical Education to intervene and provide a safe and secure environment for doctors so that they can provide health care facilities to the best of their capacity with fearing for their own security. |
