BJP must sit in opposition, says Mahant Rameshwar | Pleading Jammu's cause | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 1: The BJP, which has been in power in Jammu & Kashmir since March this year, it appeared till the other day, was the target of the people of Jammu region alone and those political parties which suffered defeats at its hands in the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. The people of Jammu region leveled serious charges against the BJP several times during these six months and the parties like the Congress sought to exploit the people's anger against the BJP to its advantage. Their attacks on the BJP continue unabated even today. However, the BJP had never expected that its strong supporters would ever train guns at it and lambasteD it, but it happened on Sunday much to its discomfiture and dismay. It was none other Mahant Ramshwar Das who launched a frontal attack on the BJP and that too in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma, Speaker of the Assembly Kavinder Gupta, Minister of State Priya Sethi, senior VHP leader Leela Karan Sharma, to mention only a few. The occasion was the function organized by the RSS-controlled, guided and funded the now defunct and non-functional Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS) to remember the martyrs of 2008 and honour their family members. Mahant Rameshwar was the chief guest. Addressing those gathered on the occasion, Mahant Rameshwar Das said that "power had gone into the BJP" and "it will not win a single seat in the next election if it continued to conduct itself it conducted after coming into power". "The victory of the BJP in 25 Assembly constituencies was the result of its tapasya (hard work for and commitment to Jammu). If it works for Jammu it used to work before it came into power in the State, it would win 35, or even more than 35 seats, but if it continues to ignore Jammu like it ignored it during the past six months, it will not win a single seat from Jammu". "Agar Jammu hit ka dhayan rakhenge to sankhya 35 ya us se bhi adhik ho sakti hai, lekin nazarandaaz kiye jane par shunay hone mein samay nahin lagega," he said. He didn't stop just there. Ridiculing and tearing into the BJP leadership and BJP ministers, Mahant Rameshwar Das said that they used to accuse the insensitive and callous authorities in the State of not implementing the terms of the 2008 agreement reached between the Jammu & Kashmir Government and the SASS, but "now our own people are in power". What did they do to ensure the implementation of the agreement or to mitigate the hardships of the families of the martyrs?, he asked. "They have turned to theirs (Kashmiris') after coming into power, it appears now," he further said, and added that the BJP as a party and the BJP ministers had forgotten and abandon the families of the martyrs. "Hum har saal shaheedi diwas par sarkar se samiti ke saath huye samjhote ko laggu karne ki appeal karte hain. Pahle to goongi-behri sarkarein theen, lekin aab to hamare apne satta mein hain. Aab kisko shikayat karein? "Jab se satta sambhali hai, aisa lagta hai ki aap begane ho gaye hain. Satta mein aane ke baad kisi ne bhi shaheedon ke parijanoan ke paas ja kar yeh janane ki koshis nahin kee ki unki roji-roti kaise chal rahi hai," he said in chaste Hindi. He concluded his speech by saying that Jammu was the core constituency and support-base of the BJP and the people of Jammu wanted the BJP to play the role it used to play while in opposition. "Bhajpaa ka wajood Jammu hai aur Jammu ki janata chahti hai ki bhajpaa wo kaam karey jo vipaksh mein rehkar kehti aur karati thee," he said. What Mahant Rameshwar Das said must have rattled and shocked the BJP. For, his attack was sharp, scathing and humiliating and what he said was actually what the well-wishers-turned-critics of the BJP had been saying ever since the BJP abandoned its ideology and came into power after subverting the Jammu mandate. There is no doubt whatsoever that Mahant Rameshwar only spoke the language of the outraged and humiliated people of Jammu region. |
