Rahul fails to rejuvenate faction ridden Congress | Mir to discuss factionalism with high command | | ET Report JAMMU, Sept 1: The much talked about three-day visit of Jammu and Kashmir by the AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi has failed to rejuvenate the faction ridden State unit of the Congress as the party leaders are learnt to have refused to settle down their differences. Worried over this , sources said that PCC president G A Mir is likely to rush to New Delhi for seeking a personal meeting with Rahul Gandhi this week for discussing organizational matters vis-à-vis groupism in State unit of Congress. According to the sources in Congress circles, the party high command has conveyed its disappointment with the general response to Rahul Gandhi's visit to Jammu Kashmir and held the State unit responsible for the same. Even as PCC president and his team tried their best to make Rahul's visit a great success and a revitalize for the party in J&K, the prevailing factionalism and political bitterness among a few senior Congress leaders spoiled the show, sources said while quoting a senior PCC functionary. GA Mir, who was mulling to cash the visit as an opportunity for further projecting his image before Rahul Gandhi, had to face embarrassment when opponent groups within the party virtually came openly against each other while some senior leaders tried to create scene during the high profile visit. Even as Rahul Gandhi did not name any leader, he warned stern action against those creating trouble or raising banner of revolt in the party. His warning was a clear signal that Rahul did not find the Congress house in J&K well, sources explained. The mood of Rahul Gandhi was also sensed by the PCC president, who is likely to visit New Delhi this week for a meeting with top brass to discuss organizational affairs, sources said and added that besides discussion on nomination of new block presidents and district presidents, measures to check dissidence and factionalism in the party are all set to be main agenda of the proposed meetings. |
