JAMMU, Sept 16: Tawi Trekkers J&K, the premier trekking organization of the state, shall organize its second phase of Silver Jubilee Himalayan Trekking Programme by conducting a number of Heritage treks for school students during October-November in Dharamshala area of Himachal Pradesh. During the four-day Dharamshala trek, scheduled to start from October one, the trekkers would visit the world heritage site of Kangra Fort, the largest fort in Himalaya and probably the oldest dated fort in India; the sacred Jwalajee temple, one of the most ancient temples in India; Macleodganj, the seat of His Holiness Dalai Lama; Dharamkot, popularly called mini Israel; Bhagshunath, the beautiful Waterfall, the serene Dal Lake, Tapovan, Chamunda, Dharamshala and Nagini besides a visit to the beautiful Dharamshala stadium. The participation fee which includes boarding, lodging, transportation and supervision by expert trekkers is Rs.2800 only. "The purpose of the programmes is to expose young boys and girls to nature and world famous Indian heritage and thereby imbibe in them the spirit of adventure and love and pride for the country and its glorious past," informed general secretary of Tawi Trekkers, Shwatica Khajuria. It may be mentioned here that Tawi Trekkers J&K is celebrating the year 2015 as the Silver Jubilee year of Himalayan Trekking Programme, the most popular adventure activity of the club among school students during summer vacations for the last 25 years. To mark the 25th year the club shall be organizing 25 activities during 2015. The club has already conducted 18 events, including eight treks, one professional adventure camp, two coaching camps for sport climbers, one at Jammu and the other at Delhi; sponsorship of climbers for a Belayers course at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi; two panting competitions, a quiz competition, a visit to the Aquarium and a sport climbing competition for specially abled children besides honoring climbers on the National Sports Day. It may also be recalled here that Tawi Trekkers J&K is a voluntary adventure sports and social organization run by highly dedicated young boys and girls whose only aim is to spread the spirit of adventure and love of nature amongst all strata of society without distinction of color, caste class or creed. |
