Jammu, Sept 16: Four years ago, the Public Works Department (PWD) started constructing four additional classrooms at Government Higher Secondary School Basantgarh, but the work is still incomplete. It was in 2012 when the state government sanctioned four additional classrooms and stair hall for the GHSS Basantgarh. The construction work was allotted to the PWD. "This year more than 400 students from Class 1 to 12 were admitted in the GHSS. The school, however, has just two buildings comprising five classrooms, a laboratory and a staff room," local sarpanch Manzoor Ahmad told Early Times. "Imagine 12 classes are going on in five rooms," he said. Ahmad said the students cannot think of sports because the school does not have a playground and there are no physical teachers either. Moreover, the school is facing acute shortage of lecturers, masters and teachers. At the moment 10 staff members run the show. The school administration houses more than 100 students in one room because of space paucity and shortage of teachers. Shamim Ahmed, student of Class 12, said the school is even lacking chairs and desks. We have been facing a lot of problems as the laboratory lacks equipment and there is no laboratory assistant available. |
