Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 16: Constitution of district and block committees of the Pradesh Congress is likely to be delayed following postponement of the AICC Convention, which may be held in November this year.
Amidst clear indications of major reshuffle at top level in the Congress after the proposed AICC convention, the Pradesh Congress Committee president G A Mir is learnt to have decided to delay constitution of the district and block committees till a clear picture emerges about the next incharge of J&K affairs and fate of some heavyweights in the AICC.
While, elaborating, sources said that the PCC president has been trying to maintain a balance between Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni, whose groups in the State unit of Congress are dominating the party, and he does not want to take confrontation with either of them by ignoring their men in the Congress. Since, Mr Azad is going to stay as leader of Congress Legislative Party in the Rajya Sabha, there are speculations that Ms Ambika Soni may be replaced as incharge of the J&K Affairs. Though it is not clear that who would be the next incharge of J&K Affairs, sources claimed that Ambika Soni is likely to be shifted and given some other important assignment by the party after the reshuffle.
Keeping in view of this aspect, sources added, Mr Mir is in favour of delaying the constitution of district and block committees and nomination of their heads. The appointment of new incharge of J&K Affairs will decide the fate of aspirants for the post of district president, sources added.
Earlier, the AICC convention was proposed to be held in September but the same was postponed to November-December after re-election of Sonia Gandhi as the All India president of Congress Committee.
Meanwhile, sources informed that G A Mir and Gulam Nabi Azad have started coming close to each other as both of them are learnt to have realized their dependence and limitations.
