SSP Uttam Chand is back | | | Early Times Report jammu, Sept 16: By calling back SSP Uttam Chand, the Government has sent a loud and clear message that it will not succumb to pressure tactics especially from those who are trying to put in their favourite officials. According to sources, the Government decided to give the charge of SSP Jammu again to Chand after it came to fore that the Jammu protests were engineered by some so-called leaders who were defeated and booted out by the people and are facing serious cases. Sources said the Government after thorough discussion discussed the reports on the incident which led to police firing. The report had suggested that police was forced to fire after the mob on being instigated had first stabbed a police official and was provoked to communalise the situation and embarrass the Government. "A senior leader who calls himself champion of a particular community played a leading part. Facing serious court cases and Vigilance cases of corruption and loot, he saw an opportunity in these disturbances to bake his political cake. The present Government didn't want to allow him succeed in his nefarious designs," said a senior official. Sources said the Government has also tried to send the message that upright officers will be guarded and supported and will not be allowed to face whims of some leaders who had earlier degraded the system by putting in corrupt officers who were only scheming and helping their political masters. "The system was degraded to such an extent that public had lost confidence in it. The Government is trying to revive it and it's for this reason that corrupt officials are being sacked and shown the door while upright officers are safeguarded. It's the intent of the Government to prove that system can withstand the political whims and deliver also," said a senior Cabinet Minister wishing not to be named. |
