| Historic city presents 'shabby' look, Municipal Committee in slumber | | | Early Times Report
Poonch Sept 16: Expressing concerns over the messy and encroachments along roadside in Poonch city, the locals have alleged that Municipal Committee Poonch has failed to deliver basic needs to people and is in deep slumber.
Locals alleged that Poonch Municipal Committee apparently has adopted a lackadaisical approach towards its responsibilities while the space of majority of city roads are eaten up by the encroachment by traders and illegal parking lots appearing at various road sides.
Romesh Chander a government employee lamented that Municipal Committee infact has failed to maintain the pristine glory of historic Poonch city which is now reduced to a little township having lost its splendor to the encroachments and vehicles parked here and there around the city.
"Most of the shopkeeper illegally have covered roads of Poonch city by putting their consumable goods for sale despite people of city have raised the voice against it but Municipal Committee Poonch yet is in deep slumber and had brushed aside from the problems of the public," said Om Prakash another resident of Poonch city.
Locals also decried that the movement of the traffic though has been restricted in the city during 7.00 to 7:00 pm vide an official order from District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch but there is no one from authorities to enforce the restrictions while city witnesses rule of horn honking all through day. Not only this but the municipal authorities fails to remove the encroachments by the shopkeepers who often lay their salable items on the roads and pathways in front of the officials at the helms of affairs reasons better known to them |
