Protesting workers call of their strike on Banihal-Qazigund tunnel from Banihal end

banihal, Sept 16: The workers engaged on Banihal-Qazigund four line tunnel who were on protest for over a month today called off their strike from Banihal end (South Portal of the tunnel) after the intervention of local MLA and ex- minister Vikar Rasool while the works on the north portal i.e. Kashmir end still remained paralyzed.
Local reports said that the workers employed with the company M/s Nava Yuga Engineering for the construction of four line tunnel were on strike from more than past one month today called off their strike from Banihal end after the assurance of the company that their demands will be fulfilled in next coming days.
Reports said trade unionists leading the stir from Banihal End of the tunnel on Tuesday met with management of company in presence of MLA Banihal who intervened the matter and sought a redressal of this month long strike. "It was the intervention of MLA Banihal when the company management agreed majority of workers demands including previous balance overtime wages, medical and tunnel allowances, bonus and etc, reports added.
They said, "After the assurance from company management in presence of Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Banihal, the protesting workers decided to call off their ongoing month long stir and resumed the work today from Banihal End- the South Portal." Reports however added that work on North Portal i.e. the valley end still is suspended.
An officer of the company management confirmed that the more than 200 workers of Banihal end called of their strike after the negotiation with them. He said the negotiation with the workers from other end of the tunnel is also in progress and hoped the work on other side will also be resumed soon.
Pertinently CPM leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad yousf Targami also have supported workers cause and has termed the workers' strike genuine.
