Urdu dying slow death in J&K: CUK VC

srinagar, Sept 16: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din today said the Urdu was dying a slow death in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Despite the fact that Urdu is official language of the our State, it is in dire straits," Prof. Mehraj ud Din said while addressing the inaugural session of the two day seminar "Tasawuf, Urdu Adab Aur Hamara Moashira" organised by the varsity's Department of Urdu, at Nowgam academic block.
Prof. Mehraj ud Din said the Urdu was now mostly used in Revenue department and judiciary. He asked the faculty members of Urdu department to make strenuous and continuous efforts in promoting the language across the length and breadth of the State.
Deliberating on the theme of the seminar, he said Kashmir has deep association with mysticism and had been an abode of spiritual and religious personalities. "Kashmir has been called Pirvaer and I hope that the participants during the event would discuss threadbare on all the facets with respect to it," he added.
Prof. Mehraj ud Din said that despite deficient infrastructure and university operating from three separate academic blocks, the varsity was successfully holding academic and other activities. "The work on the Pre Engineered Buildings (PEBs) at the designated campus in Ganderbal would be started soon and subsequently all the academic activities would be shifted to the permanent campus," he said.
Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri, former head Department of Urdu, Delhi University, Prof. Sadiq, former head Department of Urdu, University of Kashmir, Prof. Zaman Azurdha, Coordinator Department of Urdu, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Malik, CUK Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, were among other faculty members and students present on the occasion. Delhi University Prof in Persian Department, Prof Sharief Hussain Qasmi, Baba Fareed Sufi Centre Punjabi University Patiala, Director, Prof. Nashir Naqvi, former Dean Faculty of Arts Jammu University, Prof. Zahoor ud Din, noted journalist, Ghulam Nabi Khayal were also present during the seminar.
