CUK holds EC meet, approves launch of B.Voc progs | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 19: The 15th Executive Committee (EC) meeting of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) was held on Saturday with officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din, in chair. The meeting was among others attended by Commissioner Secretary to Government, Department of Higher Education, Sarita Chauhan, noted documentary film maker and Television presenter, Siddharth Kak, former Vice-Chancellor Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Prof Siddiq Wahid, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, Prof. Maithili Sharan, former JKPSC Member, M M Bhat,Dean School of Languages, CUK, Prof. Mohammad Aslam, Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Abdul Gani, Head of the Department Tourism Studies, Prof. S Fayyaz, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Controller of Examinations/I/c Finance Officer, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar. Welcoming the EC members, Prof. Mehraj ud Din gave a detailed account about the university functioning and informed the participating members that despite several operational difficulties, the varsity was marching ahead in achieving its main goal of providing quality education to the students. He said the university has added integrated Science programmes from the current academic session and was contemplating to launch more programmes in near future. Prof. Mehraj ud Din said the university was conducting frequent seminars, workshops and other activities and the students were participating in these events with enthusiasm. Prof. Mehraj ud Din said the university was keen to shift its academic activities to the permanent campus at Ganderbal. "The work on the Pre Engineered Buildings would be started soon and after its completion, the academic departments would be shifted to the designated campus," he said. He informed the meeting that Honorable Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, also visited the campus and assured to provide 1000 additional kanals of land for the construction purposes. Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, who presented the agenda of the meeting, informed the Council about the steps being taken by the university vis-à-vis its growth and expansion on academics and infrastructure front. He said that despite floods last year, the examinations were conducted on time, adding that the faculty and administrative staff were doing every bit to make the institution a centre par excellence. The Council approved the launch of Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) programme in Retail and Logistics Management and Tourism and Hospitality in the university from this academic session. Controller of Examinations/I/c Finance Officer, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, presented the vote of thanks. |
