Aged Mufti works harder, sweats more than ex-twitter CM | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 19: Despite age and health both not being on his side, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed is not only active but has been inspiring the team of officers and Ministers around him to work hard for bringing State out of financial mess besides forcing the Central Government to announce the already much delayed flood relief package. From his PRO to Secretary, sources said that all know who the boss is and how serious he is towards routine as well as issues which crop up now and then. They added that Mufti does not believe in short-cuts and prefers detailed analysis of all the issues whether official or unofficial. He does read the official files, notes down the important points and then, ensures that Babus do not change even a single line once he has given them his brief, said a source. Gone are the days when Babus would do what they desired. A top official said that during the NC-Congress regime; Babus enjoyed the power and position equivalent to none. He added that they would decide issues on their own, take decisions and even get them implemented without bothering political and social ramifications of the same. They would care for none since they knew they had a Chief Minister who would often give them his mind either over e-mail or SMS or sometimes even over social networking sites i.e. twitter and facebook, a source said. Citing an instance, a senior KAS officer said that he once made an important point regarding the then much touted Sher-e-Kashmir Employment Policy. "I gave my opinion on the policy. I recommended certain changes during the course of a meeting with the then Chief Minister's close aide. The aide snubbed me as if I had committed a crime. He refused to listen to me despite knowing well that I was talking sense. Even the then political dispensation did not listen to me. This resulted in policy failing to attract the youth and thus, led to political disaster for both NC and Congress," said the officer who now holds an important position in PDP-BJP Government. Though it is not good to draw comparisons but since I am at the verge of retirement, let me tell you frankly that Omar Abdullah was never serious about routine administrative issues which is not the case with Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. "Omar's coterie would run his office and not he. Had he taken governance seriously, he would not have gone out of power neither would have National Conference (NC) suffered such a humiliation since it came to power after 1947. His aides would decide routine administrative issues without taking into account political ramifications of the same," said the officer. He maintained that Mufti leaves little for his aides and advisors. "With Mufti in Chair, you know you are not dealing with a non-serious man. He goes into detail of every issue. There is no escape route. Aides and advisors do not take decisions. They have their own job and have been strictly told not to cross the red lines," said another officer in the Chief Minister's office. He added that things have begun falling in line and if the Chief Minister's deadline is any indicator, derailed administrative set-up would completely be back on track. "Chief Minister is doing all what he can do to bring J&K back on the international tourist map. All non-serious and non-performing officers of all ranks and designations would be shown the door. None would be spared. We do not want deadwood and sycophants to dominate the administrative set-up," added a top official. Citing an instance of CM's seriousness, he said "A well-connected top bureaucrat was shifted to an unimportant position when he tried to use all the influence in the world for a particular posting. He was told not to seek any position and instead, wait for the State Government to take a decision. He refused to wait and was, hence, shifted. There is no question of something getting choice posting. What for an officer needs a particular posting is what the Chief Minister says. It is the Government which decides who is to be posted where and not the officer." |
