Jammu, Sept 19: The insensitivity on part of Higher Education Minister Naem Akhtar towards higher education could be gauged from fact that majority of Government Degree colleges across state are yearning for staff but instead of issuing transfer orders of Assistant Professors the Minister went for Hajj pilgrimage.
Consequently the transfers of Assistant Professors will be delayed further and badly impact the studies in all colleges, where mid semester exams are knocking at the doors and in absence of staff, due to court case which delayed engagement of Teaching Assistant, the studies are suffering badly.
Sources informed Early Times that a long list of transfers was prepared by department and same was sent for approval of Minister Naem Akhtar. "A total of 233 Assistant Professors and half a dozen College Principals are transferred according to the new order prepared by department, which is approved by the Minister but at the eleventh hour, the Minister reportedly withhold the order, due to some unknown reasons", sources said.
They further informed that the Education Minister reportedly asked the senior officials that orders would be issued only after he would returned from Haj pilgrimage. "The Minister is slated to return back from Saudi Arabia on October 2, while October 3 and 4 are holidays and transfer order will be issued in October month only", sources said.
Sources further alleged that though on one hand, Education Minister had reportedly given all powers to Commissioner Secretary but the transfer orders were not issued without his consent, exposing the hollowness in practice and words of Minister.
"The mid semester exams are knocking at the doors but the two months are already wasted due to paucity of staff in majority of colleges across state, except City colleges, which are overloaded", an Assistant Professor pleading anonymity said, adding that it was a tragedy instead of concentrating on Higher Education scenario, Minister withhold transfer orders, without any reason and went to pilgrimage.
Sources further said that the delay of transfers of College Assistant Professors was only in interest of those influential college lecturers, who have been overstaying in city colleges due to close proximity with the power corridors.
