Special squad imposes fine on erring traders

Ramban, Sept 19: Special checking squad on Saturday inspected market and imposed fine on erring traders.
According to District Development Commissioner Ramban Bashir Ahmed Dar, ADDC Ramban Ravinder Kumar Sadhu constituted a special squad comprising various departments which includes Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), Municipal Committee Ramban, Police Department besides other agencies conducted market checking in Ramban town to ensure that people get quality edibles and essential commodities with reasonable rates especially during these days of festivity.
The team checked the rates of fruits, vegetables, milk, chicken, mutton and other eatables besides inspecting the quality of these commodities. The squad, comprising AD CAPD, Ramban Abdul Rashid Ganai, Tehsildar Ramban, Gurpreet Singh, EO Ramban, Zubaida Parveen, Food Safety Officer, TSO Ramban, and officers of different departments, conducted checking of shops and vendors and seized rotten and subsidized food items, vegetables and fruits and sweets.
An amount of Rs.10100 was recovered from erring traders in which Rs 5800 was recovered by the MC Ramban and rupees 4300, was fined by the CAPD Department Ramban. A similar checking was also conducted by the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Ramban headed by Assistant Controller (AC) Kapil Jamwal conducted inspections of various business establishments at Ramban and booked six traders for violation of legal metrology act.
As many as five challans were compounded by the concerned on the spot and penalty of Rs 4300/- was imposed on the erring traders. AC, LMD directed all the traders to use only verified weight and measures for business transactions. Officers also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist from using unfair trade practices, use of domestic LPG cylinders, overcharging and stressed for maintaining sanitation and display of rate list and stickers. They also appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities.
