Ram Madhav's act of ignoring public opinion likely to damage BJP | Says Nirmal Singh doing well, relations with PDP cordial | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party high command have, it seems, made up their mind to destroy BJP in Jammu & Kashmir. They know it that the people of Jammu region have turned against BJP and the coalition government. They also know that the entire Kashmiri leadership, barring that of the PDP for obvious reasons, Kashmiri opinion-makers and commentators, and even civil society groups have unleashed a relentless hate campaign against them and created a volcanic situation in the valley. Besides, they know that the BJP has also become quite unpopular in Ladakh. Still, they are not ready to review the prevailing situation in the state as well as the working of BJP and the coalition government. While BJP's number of MLAs is equal to that of PDP, the party exists nowhere in terms of its share in governance. It is hardly necessary to point out that the core constituency of the BJP were the people of Jammu region, especially those who constitute the minority community in the state. Suffice to say that it was they who voted hugely for the BJP both in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, not knowing that it would not only "abandon its core issues and again and again ditch them after winning elections, but also publicly humiliate them by supporting all the actions and decisions of its alliance partner. The alienated people of Jammu region during all these almost seven months displayed their anger a number of times. So much so, they - apart from organising three massive protest rallies in the heart of Jammu city, the BJP's stronghold, and forcing the BJP ministers and legislators to remain under very tight police security -- brought the entire life in the region to a grinding halt for eight days between May and August with people in thousands coming on to the roads, shouting anti-BJP and anti-Narendra Modi slogans, burning their effigies and demanding the dismissal of what they called "anti-Jammu coalition government". They targeted BJP for two main reasons - shifting of AIIMS from Jammu to Kashmir and adoption by the BJP of what they called "anti-Jammu and anti-national agenda of alliance". All this should have made the Prime Minister and the BJP high command to sit up to review the fall-out in Jammu region of the BJP-PDP combine and take appropriate steps to win back the trust of the alienated Jammu people. But they didn't do that. Instead, they again and again patted the local BJP ministers and commended their performance and defended coalition with PDP, which takes full advantage of its association with BJP to push forward its Kashmir and one-religion-centric agenda. The Prime Minister defended the alliance and gave a certificate that the coalition's functioning "is fine". BJP national president Amit Shah, who knows nothing about Jammu & Kashmir and the nature of politics the Kashmiri leadership brazenly indulges in to hold the Kashmiris aloof from the national mainstream or secular politics, too, on occasions commended the coalition government and the performance of the BJP ministers. And, on Saturday evening, Ram Madhav, BJP national general secretary and one of the chief architects of the 'agenda of alliance', broadly termed by the people as the 'agenda of destruction' and 'agenda of subversion', also commended the role of BJP ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, and asserted that the relations between BJP and PDP were very cordial. Madhav, who, like Amit Shah and Narendra Modi, is also ignorant about the history and geography of Jammu & Kashmir and the kind of politics the Kashmiri leadership plays in the valley to create hatred between the regions and the communities, deny Jammu and Ladakh their legitimate share and create a wedge between Kashmiris and New Delhi by arousing passions against India, gave almost full marks to the coalition, thus telling the people of Jammu region that BJP high command doesn't attach any importance whatsoever to what they say about BJP and the coalition government. It is important to note that Ram Madhav, during his Saturday's interview to a TV channel editor, said that "Nirmal Singh is doing well; we want him to further improve; our relations with PDP are very cordial; PDP is an independent party and we are not concerned with what it says and does in that capacity; it is the concern of PDP, not ours," he said. In other words, he dismissed all the arguments which had been advanced by the people of Jammu region against BJP and PDP-BJP coalition government. This means the people of Jammu region and other patriotic sections of society in the state have to suffer more losses and the country has to face more serious troubles in the state, particularly the valley where the situation has already assumed alarming proportions. Thanks to the conduct of the present regime. |
