Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 3: The PA (personal assistant) of a SP is alleged to have assaulted and harassed a family at Lawipora on the outskirts of Srinagar. Abdul Gani Parray and his family, including wife, five daughters, a son and elderly mother, were at home when cops barged into their house and demanded money while abusing the womenfolk. On September 30 last, police had detained Parray for two hours. "During my detention, I was given a sound beating by the cops as a result of which my ear drums suffered damages," he alleged while showing a medical certificate in this connection. Parray and his family demonstrated in Press Enclave near Lal Chowk, demanding justice and action against the guilty cops. The victim also accused police of allegedly snatching Rs 19,400 from him. Parray had brokered for 4 kanal 15 marlas of land sold to Ghulam Mohiudin Bhat, former IMPA Professor, in 2007. Bhat had paid about Rs 33 lakh to the land owner following which Parray and the seller, according to Bhat, failed to execute the proper sale deed. Bhat, in his complaint to the divisional commissioner, accused the broker and seller of selling the same land to a third party at higher rate. "I have paid the whole money back, including the interest money," Parray claimed as he showed the bank transaction details in this context. Speaking to Early Times, SP (west) Param Vir Singh 'denied' the involvement of police in harassing the family. "The victims should have approached us instead of going to the press. The family is lying about the harassment," he claimed. "If it will be proved anywhere that I or my police team is involved in any harassment of this person, I will resign then from my position," he added. |
