Autumn session of Assembly will also be meaningless for Jammu | BJP an alien | | Early times Report JAMMU, Oct 3: A week-long session of the J&K Legislature today commended at the Summer Capital, Srinagar. It would not be a smooth session. The parties like the NC, the Congress, the CPI-M and Kashmir-based independent legislators hinted even the commencement of the session that they would not only raise issues concerning the September 2014 devastating floods and the failure of the coalition government to ameliorate the sufferings of the flood-affected Kashmiri people, but would also ensure a discussion on the beef ban issue as well as other Kashmir-specific issues. The NC, in particular, would try to make things difficult for the ruling coalition, as it believes that it is in a position to corner it and strike a chord with the Kashmiri people. It believes that now is the time to hit the PDP and retrieve the space it lost to the PDP in 2014. The NC, like other Kashmir-based non-PDP law-makers, is all set to use the legislature to attack the PDP to tell the Kashmiri Muslims that the PDP forged an alliance with the BJP for the sake of power and the PDP is implementing the RSS agenda in Kashmir. The PDP-BJP combine has also worked a joint strategy to face the opposition's onslaught. The Chief Minister has, according to reports, already taken on board the already rather willing BJP and has said that there is perfect understanding between the two and both the parties will face the opposition's attack unitedly. But more than that, the Chief Minister has claimed that there are no differences between the PDP and the BJP on any issue and his government will not allow the opposition to destabilize the coalition government at any cost. The Deputy Chief Minister, too, has expressed similar views and directed his party MLAs and MLCs to work in tandem with their counterparts in the PDP to defeat the opposition's designs. He has asserted that the coalition would emerge strong during the autumn session of the legislature. Whatever the case or situation, the issues concerning Jammu would remain unaddressed, as it happened during the last budget session, which was also the first session under the present dispensation. The problem of the people of Jammu region is that the BJP they voted for in the last assembly election has joined hand with the PDP and turned alien. Alien not only because it turned pro-Kashmir even before becoming part of the establishment in J&K, but also because it became part of the establishment after surrendering everything to Kashmir in writing. The BJP sealed the fate of the people of Jammu region the day it adopted the PDP-influenced agenda of alliance. The most striking aspect of the whole situation as far as the Jammu cause is concerned is that the RSS, the Prime Minister and the BJP high command are at the back and call of the PDP, as they want to the coalition government to stay put in power a whatever cost. Some of the issues which have adversely impacted the psyche of the people of Jammu region include refusal of the coalition government to grant citizenship rights to refugees from Pakistan, refusal of the coalition government to grant Dogra certificate to the Dogra youth, declaration as compulsory Urdu for the naib-tehsildars' written test, imposition of 12.5 per cent Jazya tax on Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, dismissal of Additional Advocate General, Jammu, Deputy Advocate General, Jammu, from their respective positions on the ground that they defended the laws on cow killing and beef eating in the J&K High Court, exclusion of the Jammu youth from the vital service sector, transfer of AIIMS from Jammu to Kashmir and so on and so forth. That the possibility of the coalition government addressing any of these issues is remote, as the PDP-led coalition government did everything with the concurrence of the BJP. Since the BJP is part of the coalition government and since all other Kashmir-based parties as well as the Congress are Kashmir-centric, there will be none either in the legislative assembly or in the legislative council to take up any Jammu-specific issue. The fact of the matter is that Jammu region has no representative in the state legislature. In other words, the people of Jammu region have to fend for themselves and defend their own cause. And what happened in the assembly on the opening day has established that the BJP would again side with Kashmir and leave Jammu in the lurch to retain control over some power that it got in March after sacrificing Jammu and Ladakh.
