Omar fails to utter a single word during obituary references in LA | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 3: National Conference working President and former chief minister Omar Abdullah today did not say a single word during the obituary references taken up by legislative assembly on the first day of autumn session of the legislature here today. Omar did not utter a single word so as to pay tributes to former President Avul Pakir Jainulabideen (APJ) Abdul Kalam and some other ministers as well as legislators of state who passed away during the period the legislature was not in session. The 'non-seriousness' of Omar came as a surprise to most of the legislators who were expecting the former chief minister to say something. As soon as speaker Kavinder Gupta finished his speech on the obituary references he asked Omar to say few words on the obituary references. However, to the utter surprise of speaker as well as other legislators the NC working President did not say much. He said that he seconds the tributes paid by the speaker to President Kalam. The 'non-seriousness' of the former CM gave a chance to the government to escape from the criticism that they could have faced on multiple fronts. Omar could have easily targeted the state government over its alleged indifference to the people who suffered heavily due to the devastating deluge of September 2014. As soon as Omar stood up he said that since the speaker has already paid tributes to former President and other personalities there was no need for him to say anything more in this regard. He said that he seconds the tributes paid by speaker and as such needs not to say anything more. After this he sat much to the disappointment as well as dejection of the legislators especially those belonging to National Conference. Legislators cutting party ideologies were somewhat eager to listen to Omar during the obituary reference, but they were disappointed as the former CM did not say a single word. He could not even manage few sentences so as to pay tributes to the APJ Abdul Kalam. The legislators who took part in the obituary references include MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, MLA Khan Sahib Hakeem Mohammad Yasin, MLA Samba Devinder Singh Manyal, MLA Kupwara Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar and Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh. Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed also paid tributes to the former President and other personalities. Besides Kalam, the house passed obituary references to former ministers Ghulam Rasool Kar, Mir Ghulam Mohammad, Abdul Gani Shah (Veeri) and Khawaja Sanaullah Dar. Obituary references were also passed in favour of former deputy speaker Janak Raj Gupta, former MLCs Ghulam Mohammad Misgar, Vir Chand Mahasha, Farida Mir and former secretary legislative assembly, Justice Mian Jalal-ud-din. The house also paid tributes to the Haj pilgrims who passed away due to the stampede and falling of crane at Mina and Makkah during this year's Haj pilgrimage. |
