Pak mistakes India's suggestion for precondition | | | Give up terrorism and let us sit down and talk was India's External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj's one line sermon to Pakistan. Is it a precondition as Pakistan has alleged. Had India demand one billion rupees for starting the process of dialogue it would have been construed as a precondition imposed by India. Had India asked for a chunk of land from Pakistan occupied Kashmir for resuming the process of talks it would have been treated as a precondition imposed by India. Nothing like this has been imposed and still Pakistan has started blaming India for imposing preconditions for the resumption of bilateral talks. Pakistan has accused India of "setting preconditions" for bilateral talks and "vitiating atmosphere" between the two countries, and has presented dossier to the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon containing alleged evidence of "Indian involvement in terrorism and fomenting instability in Pakistan". In its reply to the points raised by India Islamabad has accused New Delhi of "illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir". It is a broad statement lacking constitutional and legal sanctity The Pakistan statement came as an exercise of right to reply in response to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's speech at the UN General Assembly on Thursday, in which she said India was ready for a dialogue with Pakistan based on just one point: "Give up terror". Responding to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's four-point peace initiative, the Indian minister said, "We do not need four points, we need just one - give up terrorism and let us sit down and talk." However, Islamabad has shown that it is quite touchy whenever any suggestion comes from India telling Pakistan to stop exporting terror to India. And the result of this attitude has been Pakistan's sermon suggesting to India to withdraw its troops from Kashmir and called for a plebiscite, citing UN Security Council resolutions of pre-'50s. The core issue of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be cast aside by empty rhetoric. It has been and will always be on top of the agenda of any talks between India and Pakistan. This is because durable peace and stability in the region depends on a just and lasting settlement of this dispute in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council . This is what Pakistan side had to tell to the UN General Assembly without realising that it is Pakistan that has violated the original spirit of the UN resolution which had suggested to Pakistan to withdraw its troops from Pakistan occupied Kashmir and pull back all the tribal raiders who had attacked Jammu and Kashmir in 1947.And if the UN Security Council resolution could not be implemented it was because of non-cooperation from Pakistan. And despite the fact that Pakistan refused to implement the UN resolution in letter and spirit by not withdrawing its troops from Occupied Kashmir Islamabad continues to blame India for creating hurdles in the implementation of the UN resolution. Now Pakistan has submitted some documents to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon which blames India for supporting terror outfits in Pakistan. During the last over 30 years India has held Pakistan responsible for exporting terror first to Punjab and then to Jammu and Kashmir which has resulted in death of several thousand innocent people and damage to private and Government infrastructure. India had informed various development nations about the involvement of Pakistan in fomenting security instability in Jammu and Kashmir by pushing groups of militants into the state. Now to put the ball back in India's court Pakistan has started manufacturing stories, tales and evidences to convince the world that India was responsible for political and security instability in Pakistan.Well there may not be any buyers for this story except the OIC which has adopted a document, at a meeting of its Foreign Ministers in the US,where the OIC supported the demand for granting right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir. In fact Pakistan has goaded the OIC foreign ministers to support the UN resolution when Islamabad knows it well that India is opposed to interference in the internal matters by either the OIC or by Pakistan. The OIC should know it that India is a home to more Muslims than Pakistan and as such India deserves to be a member of the OIC but Pakistan has opposed it simply to use the OIC against India. |
