Panthers becoming voice of neglected, oppressed Jammu people | BJP losing hold ever its constituency | | Early Times Report jammu, Oct 5: The Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) has been slowly but surely capturing the political space in Jammu region by voicing on a daily basis the concerns of its neglected and oppressed people. The BJP has become "thoroughly unpopular" in the region because it has abandoned its constituency to please Kashmir and Kashmiri people not only at its own cost but also at the cost of Jammu people. It is now being considered as an "extension of Kashmir-based political parties" in Jammu and also the "Kashmir's mouthpiece or representative". It has stopped all kinds of political activities in Jammu region because it knows well that if it organises political activities, including demonstrations and dharnas, it will have to quit the coalition Government - something it is not prepared to do. It neither now holds press conferences nor issues statements, highlighting injustice with Jammu. And, if at all, it holds a press conference or issue a statement, it doesn't say anything concerning the problems of people of Jammu region. The fact of the matter is that BJP has nothing to put on the Jammu's political market for sale. That's the reason political observers assert that "the BJP would draw a blank in Jammu region if elections are held today". There is a point in what they say. Indeed, BJP has become an object of contempt and ridicule in Jammu region with people using very strong language against it and openly saying that "they would avenge their humiliation as and when they got the first opportunity". The first opportunity could be the elections to the local-bodies, including Municipal Corporations and Municipalities. The Congress, which suffered two defeats at the hands of BJP in 2014, could have exploited the BJP's unpopularity to its advantage, but has failed. It did oppose the imposition of Jazya tax on chopper services to the Hindu religious places and has also moved an adjournment motion on the issue in the Assembly and supported the movement for the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu, but it seldom organized political activities in Jammu region to educate the public opinion about the BJP's "wrong-doings" and "politics of bluff, deceit and deception". It's, however, a fact that the Congress leaders from Jammu have been issuing statements to identify them with the outraged Jammu sentiment, but it is not enough. People of Jammu region need a party that is active on the ground and that counters the Kashmiri leadership's anti-Jammu policies and forces it to redress the grievances of the people of the region. Clearly, it is the JKNPP which has made serious attempts to capture the political space in the Jammu region. Ever since March 1, when PDP-BJP coalition Government was formed, the JKNPP leadership and workers have been on the roads. They have been holding dharnas and organising protest marches at regular intervals. They have also organized dharnas and protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Besides, the JKNPP leadership has submitted a number of memorandums to the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre on the issues facing the people of Jammu region. Besides, holding dharnas and organising protests, JKNPP has also been holding press conferences at regular intervals on the issues which the people of Jammu region hold very dear. Not only this, it has been reiterating its demand seeking reorganisation of J&K, saying this is the only alternative left for the people of Jammu region to obtain what they legitimately deserve as part and parcel of the Indian nation. Interestingly, JKNPP has been criticising BJP more than Congress, NC and PDP. Its sole target is BJP and for obvious reasons. On Sunday, JKNPP held dharna in Jammu and launched a scathing attack on BJP and charged it with not taking up the Jammu-specific issues in the Assembly. They demanded immediate rollback of service tax on helicopter services to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, issuance of Dogra certificate to Dogra youth, implementation of law and High Court orders on beef ban and apprehending culprits violating this law, reinstatement of Government lawyers sacked for defending beef ban, removal of apprehensions on Jammu AIIMS, announcement of smart city for Jammu, regularization of daily wagers, release of emoluments of ReTs and teachers withheld for the last six months and enhancement of honorarium besides regularization of SPOs and VDCs. It is important to note that the people of Jammu region, cutting across party lines, have been acknowledging that "JKNPP has been doing well" and that "it may replace BJP in the region". |
