Telecom companies violates norm, install towers in residential areas | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 5: Officials have failed to implement the direction of the higher ups to take action against telecom companies for installing illegal mobile towers in residential areas. Raj Kumar, a social activist said that state government had asked the respective districts administration to form committees to look into the complaints of violation of norms but till date administration has failed to frame the committees. "As per guidelines, a mobile tower should be installed 100 meters away from the hospitals and educational institutions. But in Jammu city mobile companies have violated these guidelines and have installed mobile towers on roof tops of several commercial and residential buildings which are hardly 50 meters away from educational and health institution," the social activists said. He said that as per norms the first preference shall be given to the location of tower in the Forest areas, while second preference shall be given to the location of tower in the open or public areas away from residential locations. As per medicos, the mobile towers crowding the city's skyline are making the air toxic; these radiations are harmful for people living in a 300 meter radius of the towers. Pregnant women and children are in absolute threat from cell phone towers than the normal population. It is very unfortunate to see these towers nearby educational and health institutions in Jammu city. These towers also affect the children the deeper is the penetration of electromagnetic radiation as skulls of children are thinner. Children, adolescents and pregnant women could be at the maximum risk. Radiation from mobile towers poses grave health risks including memory loss, lack of concentration and digestive disturbances. Despite repeated attempts Deputy Commissioner Jammu didn't pick the phone. |
