HC issues contempt notice to JU VC | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 5: The High Court has issued a contempt notice to Jammu University's Vice Chancellor Prof R D Sharma for dishonouring its directives in the case of a contractual lecturer in the Distance Education Department (DED). The court has asked the VC to show cause as to why contempt proceedings be not initiated against him and summoned him to court on October 6. On September 3, the court had ordered the varsity authorities not to disengage Vikas Sharma who was working as a contractual lecturer in the DED. But the university authorities did not honour the court directions, prompting the latter to issue contempt notice to the VC. Earlier, one Seema Bhasin, who also worked on contract basis as lecturer, was allowed by the university vide order no:Adm/TW/15/5047, dated August 20 to continue as contractual lecturer in the DDE till the post is advertised and selection is made afresh. The varsity favoured Bhasin even as the post had already been advertised on July 2. "The university authorities have adopted different yardsticks in two similar cases. It shows how nepotism and favouritism rules the roost in the JU," the aggrieved lecturer said. |
