Soldier killed in encounter with terrorists in Bandipora | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 28: An Army jawan has been killed during an ongoing encounter with terrorists in north Kashmir's Bandipora district. The encounter started after the Army and police launched a joint operation against terrorists hiding in Bhuttu area in the district. Police sources say three heavily armed terrorists are believed to be holed up and the operation is going on. This is the second major gun battle between terrorists and security forces in Kashmir in the last three days. On Monday, a junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of Army was killed and another soldier was injured in an encounter with terrorists in south Kashmir's Shopian district. Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in the operation. Police says the Bandipore operation was launched after specific information about the presence of terrorists. In the afternoon, there was heavy exchange of fire in which a soldier of 14 Rashtriya Rifles was injured. He was shifted to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Sources say one terrorist is believed to be injured in the encounter. The security forces have tightened the cordon and reinforcement has been rushed. In last one week, police and army have killed four top Hizbul terrorists in south Kashmir. |
