Students of GDC Budhal demonstrate over shortage of 'teaching faculty' | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Oct 28: Students of Government Degree College at Budhal in Rajouri district have held a massive protest demonstration on Tuesday and warned the concerned authorities for a violent demonstration after two days if the required staff was not provided at the college within next two days as assured by the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kotranka Zone. Pertinently just a month time is left for the final examination and the authorities have failed to provid teaching faculty for most of the subjects till the second week of October. "How we can appear in the final examination scheduled in the month of December when no class for several subjects could be held in the absence of subject teachers. Not only this, the authorities have also failed to introduce Science classes as no lecturer was made available for science stream by the authorities/State Government during last more than three years," rued Mohd Riaz and other students while protesting here today. Pertinently students from GDC Budhal on Tuesday also had blocked Rajouri-Budhal-Reasi road for more than five hours for the third time in this month demanding immediate appointments of subject wise lecturers, Assistant Professors and Associate Professors following which Sukh Pal Singh, SDM Kotranka assured the students to provide teachers within two days. Protesting students alleged that state government as well as Education Ministry have failed to provide requisite staff (permanent as well as on academic arrangements) and no class could be held till the second week of this month for many subjects including Hindi, Computer Sciences, Environmental Sciences, English, Education, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Arabic etc. "Till the second week of this month only one regular Associate professor in Persian subject and principal were running the college affairs, a student added. "Lecturers had approached the High Court in favour of their demands so no teacher could be provided by the government on Academic Arrangements for the ensuing semester and hence no classes were held for many subjects except Persian subject" said Y.P Kundal, Principal GDC Budhal-Rajouri. He added following relaxations by the Court some lecturers were sent to join at Budhal College on academic arrangements but only few have joined while for some subjects only the guest lecturers are visiting the college. Pertinently out of 19 sanctioned posts of lecturers, Assistant Professors and Associated Professors (including science subjects) only one Associate Professor in Persian subject has been appointed as regular faculty besides principal. For inept the college was made operational some six years back but till today it is being run in makeshift arrangements i.e. in six rooms of a Government Higher Secondary School in the area without due required infrastructure/ building and faculty. |
