Jammu, Oct 28: A three-day mega event of 4th Jammu & Kashmir Agricultural Science Congress was inaugurated at the Conference Hall, Main Campus Chatha of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. The Congress is being organized in collaboration with J&K State Council for Science & Technology and Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Dr. A.K. Singh, Vice Chancellor, Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Gwalior and former DDG-ICAR was the chief guest in the inaugural function The programme started with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest in the presence of Dr. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Dr TS Ganai, Director Education, SKUAST-J, Dr Kernail Singh Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST-J and more than 400 delegates from all over the country. Dr. A.K. Singh expressed happiness that such a congress which focuses on challenges for sustainable rainfed agriculture is being organized in SKUAST-J. He opined that attaining livelihood security, sustainable food production and environmental protection has always been a challenging task and the main focus of the JK Science Congress shall be the technological innovations, opportunities and challenges for livelihood security. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu stressed on the need to adopt farming systems approach for meeting the livelihood security of small and marginal farmers of both hills and plains. He further expressed his satisfaction for organizing a congress on such a burning issue relevant to survival of the mankind in coming years and for receiving support of a galaxy of the eminent speakers who have made a mark in their chosen field of research for giving their valuable time to present lead papers in this congress. |
